Type of music: Hardcore, emocore, power punk, pop rock (yes pop).
So, now that we have learned our lesson that bands should not get left behind due to their name (ref. The New Pornographers) enter Fucked Up, a six piece band out of Toronto that have crafted an album as a complex musical with acts, scenes, multiple narrators, etc. Queen of Hearts is at the beginning of the story (second track) and acts as the emotional ballad of two lovers, destined for failure. Their story is really one of love and loss with emotional ups and downs. You can read more about it over at NPR’s review of their album “David Comes to Life”.
I know, I know, I’m behind the times on this one. This album came out in June of this year, but I didn’t give it much of a chance originally and have been falling in love with it recently. If you can’t get behind bands that scream most of their lyrics, I understand. It isn’t really my “go to” either, but this really is an amazing track / album and I urge everyone to give it a few listens (I promise it grows on you).
